    Derrald Peterson, Owner/Designer

    Derrald graduated from Normandale College with degree in Liberal Arts and then studied cabinetmaking and drafting at Hennepin Technical College. Derrald PetersonHe worked as construction supervisor for REI and then as lead cabinetmaker and project manager for two custom cabinet shops before co-creating JP Woodworks in 1992. Combining his creative knowledge with his management experience has served JP well. Outside of work he and his wife, Janelle, are raising their three boys who are sports enthusiasts. He also finds time for photography, sports, and being in nature.

    Derrald created JP in 1992 after working in business and training as a cabinetmaker. His entrepreneurship inspired him to pursue creating a small business combining his creative knowledge with his business background. Derrald likes to attend sporting events with his three sons.

    Michael Havelin, Lead Cabinetmaker, Designer

    Mike earned his BFA in woodworking and furniture design from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where he also apprenticed with master cabinetmakers and furniture designers, he has been working in the field for over 20 years. Mike and his wife are currently restoring a 1950’s ranch home in Mendota Heights. Mike loves to spend time in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and he loves to fish.

    John Young, Finisher

    John began finishing in the autobody industry in high school. He has a background in carpentry and has been working as a wood finisher since 2001. In his spare time he makes custom handmade guitars, spends time with his wife and two children, and plays Baseball/Softball.
